We have had an amazing start to our year! Here is a sneak peek into what we have been learning in music class. KINDERGARTEN: We started our year learning some new songs: Piggies, The Fingerband, Jack in the Box. We also started a unit on the farm and have met the Duck, Hen and Lamb. We have also been working on moving the way the music sounds and deciding if it is slow, medium or fast. I am very proud of all of our Kindergarteners and their courage to sing by themselves during music class! FIRST GRADE: We started our year with the book Old Black Fly. We discovered that it is an alphabet book, rhyming book and it's a song! We learned the song and even played it on the Glockenspiel! (That's a very small xylophone!) SECOND GRADE: We started our year learning the song Dinah. We added body percussion (clapping, patting, stomping and snapping) to our song. Once we mastered the body percussion, we added instruments and were divided into groups rotating through each instrument. THIRD GRADE: We started our year learning the song Tideo. We added body percussion (clapping, patting, stomping and snapping) to our song. Once we mastered the body percussion, we added instruments and were divided into groups rotating through each instrument. FOURTH GRADE: We started our year with the song Listen in which we learned the names of our Orff Instruments (Xylophone, Metalophone, and Glockenspiel). We also were reviewed reading rhythms, notes and rests. We began learned note names on the treble staff preparing for our recorders. We have now started learning our first three notes B, A, G on our recorders and are working on the song Hot Cross Buns. FIFTH GRADE: We started our year listening to The Pink Panther. We identified the different sections of the song. We added body percussion (clapping, patting, snapping) to the song. We then divided into groups and added instruments to each section of the song. We are reviewing recorder notes and how to play them and continuing to learn our Recorder Karate songs. CHORUS: We are currently auditioning for our 4th and 5th grade Kemp Courgar Chorus. Please see the attached information and email me with any questions.
